Cuncolim Union booked their place in the semi-finals of the Navelim Villagers Union Trophy with a 5–4 win over Wilred Leisure SC, Curtorim, via the tiebreaker at the Rosary Church Ground, Navelim, on Monday.
Cuncolim Union made a strong start, taking the lead in the 3rd minute through their ace striker Daulat Dessai. Brian Fernandes doubled the advantage in the 11th minute, giving Cuncolim a 2–0 lead at halftime.
Wilred Leisure came out with renewed energy in the second half and were rewarded with two quick goals. Anslem Fernandes reduced the margin in the 32nd minute before Nailester Silveira struck in the 37th to bring the scores level at 2–2 by full time.
In the ensuing tiebreaker, Cuncolim Union held their nerve as Viraj Velip, Frazer Fernandes, and Wilson Fernandes successfully converted their penalties. For Wilred Leisure, Ryan Fernandes and Fredy Hilario found the target, but it wasn’t enough as Cuncolim triumphed 5–4 to advance to the semi-finals.
