Young Sports Hockey Club is organising a Hockey 5's tournament at Peddem ground, the date which has not been finalised.

The organisers said that they will be inviting 6 outstation teams and 6 teams from Goa will be seen in action in the tournament.

Young Sports Hockey Club, Mapusa was founded in early 2000s, by Goa’s hockey Pioneer Alexander Remedios, a NIS Hockey Coach and former Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs (DSYA), Goa- Hockey Coach. The club was established formally by registering with the Registrar of Societies in June 2014, to give dedicated children who practice/train with our club an opportunity to participate and play in the Department of Sports, state association and private organized hockey tournaments.

Since the club’s humble beginning, the club players have now developed into top sportspersons and well-rounded individuals and brought a lot of laurels to their school, higher secondary, college, state and the local community as a whole.

Some of the players from the club who have made it big include Ayyaz Khan, Aviraj Madgaonkar, and Gaurav Singh, all who have now graduated to become certified hockey coaches and umpires.

The club has organised numerous hockey tournaments in Goa, including the most recently held, the 1st All Goa mixed 5-a-side hockey tournament in Sept 2021. It was for the first time in Goa, that girls and boys played together in the same team.

The club has also actively participated in almost all the Hockey tournaments in the sub-junior, junior and senior categories organized in Goa since early 2010s. The club has most recently won the Juniors

Boys & Girls State Championships organized by Goans Hockey, the state Hockey association

in Oct-Nov 2021.

“We are a fairly young club, mostly managed by young individuals associated with sports in Goa, vying for the betterment of the young children who play and maintain a healthy lifestyle. We hereby humbly seek your assistance to provide our players with their official jerseys, hockey equipment and organise hockey tournaments. Most of the club members, being young, have dedicated energy to bring a positive change in the young players, and have to continually seek financial assistance via goodwill from esteemed individuals like your good self,” said Peter Fernandes, Secretary of the club.

“We appeal to assist us with donations that can enable us to procure jerseys, shorts, shirts, hockey sticks, hockey balls, training equipment, goalkeeper kit and organise hockey tournaments. We will provide branding space on the jerseys, as required by you,” he added.
