Don Bosco always believed that sports is a powerful tool to build character and emphasised on inclusion, said Goa Football Development Council (GFDC) Chairman Glenn Ticlo.

He was speaking at the inaugural of the Don Bosco League Finals at Don Bosco School, Panaji on Saturday.

Present were GFDC member secretary and guest of honour Fransquinha Oliveira, Director of Don Bosco College (DBC) Fr Kinley D'Cruz, Principal Prof Teotone Vaz, Vice Principal Dr Cedric Silveira and other dignitaries.

Ticlo praised the Don Bosco institution, terming it as one of the best in the state.

"Don bosco believed that sports is a powerful tool to build character. Good sportspersons always show character. Discipline is inculcated through sports and teamwork among young people. This tournament is unique as it brings together students, staff and alumni. Don Bosco always emphasized on inclusion. Love and unity is important, and that is brought in sports and also in community bonding," he said.

In her address, Oliveira said that GFDC aims to nurture grassroots football and provide platforms for young players to grow and excel.

"Football in Goa is not just a game, it is a way of life. From the narrow bylanes to the professional stadiums, the passion for football runs deep in our state. It is very encouraging to see institutions like Don Bosco college continuing this legacy by organising tournaments that bring together young talent and promote healthy competition,” she said.

Ticlo later handed over the champions trophy to Team Red Devils and the runners up trophy to Team Shreeyang.
