St Anthony's Sports Club Marna Siolim defeated ABC Sports Club Arambol 2-0 to fix a date with Rossman Cruz Nagoa Sports Club Verna in the finals of the 23rd Vagator Soccer 2023 organised by Vagator Parish Youth Sports Club, at Vagator Parish Youth Sports Club Ground, on Sunday.
Both teams were resilient and sturdy at the back in the opening minutes as there was no decisive edge for either side. St Anthony's SC took the lead just at the brink of half-time after a square pass from Kashiram Poburpekar found Pushparaj Mandrekar, who was there to place it in.
After the break, St Anthony's SC looked more threatening as they had several opportunities to increase the scoreline. In the 39th and 42nd minutes Kashiram Pomburpekar was the provider for Pushparaj Mandrekar but both times he failed to score. The second goal was scored when a corner kick was taken by Videsh Sawant and it was converted by Pushparaj Mandrekar for his brace, 2-0.
ABC Arambol's Reneil D'mello missed a chance to score in the 53rd minute as his shot was blocked by Sudhin Shirodkar, the Siolim goalkeeper. Kashiram Pomburpekar did all the spade work for St Anthony's SC as he skipped past two defenders to set up his teammate Pushparaj Mandrekar, whose shot was saved by the Arambol custodian Jordan Fernandes in the 57th minute.
ABC Arambol, not losing hope, tried to pull back one goal as a cross from the right flank by Anthony Lobo found Reniel D'mello whose shot, however, was easy work for the Siolim goalkeeper Sudhin Shirodkar. In the 69th minute, Arun Naik of Arambol caught the Siolim goalkeeper off guard as he lofted a ball above his head but the ball hit the woodwork on the bounce.
The Man of the Match prize was presented to Kashiram Pomburpekar of St Anthony's Sports Club by Franky Viegas.
