St Sabestian Mandopa clinched the Navelim Villagers Union Trophy inter-ward football tournament organised by Navelim Villagers Union, defeating Spring Boys Model 1-0.
At Rosary ground, Navelim, the lone goal was scored by Ronald Pereira. Fr Gabriel Coutinho, parish priest of Rosary Church, Navelim, was the chief guest while Edwin Cipru Cardiozo was the guest of honour. Paul Pereira, sarpanch, Navelim, Glan Martins, ISL player, Clifford Miranda, Odisha coach Climax Lawrence were also present.
St Sabestian Mandopa received the top prize of Rs 20,000 while runners-up Spring Boys Model will be awarded Rs 15,000. Awards: best-disciplined team - Coldem Boys, first goal of the final - Ronald (St Sabestian), promising player - Third (Sirvodem Boys), best forward - Perira (St Sabestian), best player of the final - Valentine Almeida (Spring Boys), best defender of the final - Myron (Spring Boys), best goalkeeper of the final - Joe Ball (Spring Boys), best goalkeeper of the tournament - Samuel Fdes (Telaulim).
Murod Vaddo Boys win inter-ward football title
Murod Vaddo Boys edged past Young Boys of Aradi by a solitary goal to emerge champions in the 6th inter-ward football tournament played at Dr Gustavo Monteiro ground Candolim on Sunday.
Saish Bagkar netted the all-important goal for Murod Vaddo Boys in the 80th minute. Rev Fr Ryan Estibeiro was the chief guest and handed over the prizes in the presence of Amalina Dias, Dy Sarpanch of Candolim.
