Uguem Rising Club clinched the title of the 27th Holy Cross Inter-Village Football Tournament with an impressive 2-0 victory over Betalbatim Sporting in the finals held at Vodlemoll, Kakoda.
The breakthrough came as early as the 10th minute, when Shailesh fired in a brilliant goal, lobbing the ball over the goalkeeper following a delicate assist — a strike that set the tone for the match.
The decisive second goal arrived in the 52nd minute, courtesy of Francisco, who made a dazzling solo run through the midfield. He beat the last defender and calmly chipped the ball over the advancing goalkeeper to double Uguem’s lead.
Despite Betalbatim’s efforts to get back into the game, Uguem’s defense held firm, and the match ended 2-0, crowning Uguem Rising Club as deserved champions of the prestigious tournament.
The chief guest, Nilesh Cabral (MLA, Curchorem Constituency), presented the winners with the trophy. Also present were Guest of Honour Prasanna Bhende (Chairperson, CCMC), special invitee and former Churchill Brothers footballer Anil Rama Gaonkar, professional footballer Princeton Rebello (Punjab FC), Johncy Fernandes (President, Guardian Angel SC), noted social worker Ali, councillors of CCMC, and various club officials and dignitaries.
