Honest Tiatr Review - MOG DIYAT: Wealth at what cost?

Concept

With education and rise in career graph man surely rises high in life. A promotion at work will fetch a fatter purse but then what about the consequences? Money can buy a lovely bed, but can the posh bed ensure a good sleep? Procreation is a natural phenomenon in marriage but when giving time to the child later is not enlisted in the day to day activity of the parents the consequences can surely be doom!

Script

The script is simple and heart touching. The importance given to career over family life and responsibilities is brought out well. The main plot has little or rather no comedy as part of the script. The comedy sideshows have another flow of line and story. The cantos are well composed.

Acting

All artistes combine well to form a good team that unfolds the story on stage. Alina is superb portraying the role of a career obsessed woman. Victor as the husband and seeker of emancipation in life graph plays his role to perfection. Trindade as the caring grandfather is good but adding a little naturality in dialogue delivery would have made his performance more convincing. Malita is great as the ailing child seeking attention from the parents.

Music

The tiatr band music is impressive and pleasing to the ears. The opening song by Alina gives a good start. Saby de Divar is hard hitting in his solo and variety songs. Other solos by Jr Reagan Peviola, Evaristo de Arambol, the duet by Jr Reagan & Peviola has no interaction and is just another solo sung by two singers. Other than the interactive song by Saby de Divar there is no other variety song.

Comedy

The comedy is well handled by Com Sally, Com Richard, Com Aveena and Com Semica. There are good punchlines and comic relief. However there is very little comedy as part of the plot. All comedy scenes have a parallel storyline. The dressed to minimum sequences however are disgusting.

Backstage

The sets have no relevance to the proceedings of the plot. While the files were modern, the use of discoloured plastic chairs was pitiable. The use of blue curtains to depict more than one scene needs to be reduced if not eliminated. The light effects were good. The background musical score was decent and effective and backed up the proceedings on stage.

Direction

The Direction was mike oriented and too many lines were seen near the microphones. All artistes performed their best. There was good coordination of the backstage team with the artistes.

Reviewers Take

Tiatr is a tiatr because of the variety songs and the comedy being linked to the main plot. In the absence of these elements the proceedings on stage becomes an entertainment programme in Konkani and not a tiatr. Senior tiatrists should educate the Tiatr Academy of Goa on this and ensure the proper framework of tiatr is maintained in a presentation called Tiatr.
