Oliver Silveira, a passionate horticulturist from Borda-Margao, has transformed his love for plants into a thriving business with the Green Vision Nursery near Handi Khuris in Raia.

What began as a hobby 30 years ago has blossomed into a successful profession, showcasing an incredible array of variegated and exotic plants. With over 200 mango varieties, including the prized Miyazaki mango, his nursery is a treasure trove for plant enthusiasts.

Silveira's collection also boasts diverse variegated lawns, variegated citrus, bonsai, grasses, egg fruit, cranberry, banana, variegated jamun, kokum, avocado, bel, and rudraksh, featuring some rare specimens found nowhere else in the State.

Silveira's journey to success hasn't been without its challenges, but his dedication to organic practices, using natural inputs and neem-based pest control methods, has paid off.

His nursery is a testament to his hard work, where every plant is meticulously cared for. Visitors appreciate how Silveira takes the time to explain the unique characteristics of each plant, sharing his knowledge acquired from books and local experts.

As a pioneer in his field, Silveira advises newcomers to gain a deep understanding of different plant species before venturing into the nursery business.

His own experience has taught him the importance of hands-on involvement, saying, “Never depend on your labourers; carry out farm practices on your own and love the plants.”

Water conservation is also a priority, achieved through efficient sprinkler and drip systems, as well as soil loosening techniques.

Beyond his nursery, Silveira has diversified his interests to include a dog training centre.

With a strong online presence through his Facebook page, Silveira continues to inspire plant enthusiasts and aspiring nursery owners alike.

As Green Vision Nursery looks to expand, it's clear that Silveira's passion for plants will continue to flourish, spreading joy and beauty to all who visit.
