The Goan has highlighted plight of homeless, destitute

DONALD FERNANDES | Trustee at Street Providence NGO | JUNE 18, 2025, 04:20 PM IST

The Goan turns 10 on June 18, 2025, and we take this opportunity to thank and share our experience of our association with The Goan over the past 8 years.

We sincerely thank The Goan paper for its unwavering support to our NGO over the years. Your consistent coverage of our work—be it our rescue operations, rehabilitation efforts, food distribution drives, or community outreach programs—has been instrumental in raising awareness and bringing visibility to the plight of the homeless and destitute across Goa.

Through your platform, countless benefactors and volunteers have come forward to support our mission—offering financial aid, donating essential supplies, or giving their time and skills to assist our residents. Your reporting has not only shed light on the hardships faced by the homeless and mentally ill but has also inspired compassion and action among your readers.

We are especially grateful to each and every reporter who has taken the time to understand the need for such publicity and who recognises that every story told can spark change.

Looking ahead, our vision for Goa includes the establishment of more mental health hospitals, dedicated counselling Centres for youth battling addictions, increased state and central government funding for mental health services, and widespread implementation of ramps and disabled friendly infrastructure. Together, with continued media support and public involvement, we hope to build a more inclusive, compassionate, and mentally healthy Goa.

We thank your esteemed newspaper and extend our best wishes for continued success in all your future endeavours in the world of media.
