A road map and a role model

“To thine own self be true” is an old adage which is both apt and true. Unless you truly know yourself and your capabilities, you will not know where you are heading and what will keep you happy and satisfied on the career front. Thus on the threshold of an exciting career option there is so much to think about and plan. There is a need to make a concerted effort on what is right for oneself that will be fulfilling and rewarding. A right career choice is one that fits you like a glove. One looks at many factors and priorities like income, status, challenges, contentment while zeroing in on a particular career option. In this context, a road map is vital and can be instrumental in leading oneself to his preferred choice.

Knowing oneself through potentials, skills and assets forms the base. Secondly the type of vocation and its requirements is the core area. One can match oneself with the job through reasoning and then take a call. To help oneself there are attributes like intelligence, imagination, feelings, motivation, health and values and finally experience.

There are number of stepping stones which will translate into success. One has to make short term and long term goals based on the happiness quotient which one can utilise to improve one’s personality and competency. The creation of a new skill or two can sometimes come in handy in decision making, problem solving or critical thinking.

Plan your future action keeping in mind the mission. Planning effectively will see you, your interest and strengths matched with your assets. Analysing or assessing oneself can sometimes be of crucial importance. In chartering the proper road map, a vital component is of the need of having a proper role model.

In the 21st century info-tech age, the desire to understand the nitty gritties of a job is of vital importance. Through the journey of education an youngster comes across hundreds of peoples who create a mark on his personality. This phenomenon starts from home. We see a number of children choosing the vocation of their parents. They find a particular environment created in the four walls of their homes which enables them to follow in the footsteps of their parents.

Thus, we see generations of doctors or engineers or lawyers in a particular clan. But this particular trend seems to be waning today. On the other hand, a number of first generation learners today have a peculiar dilemma before them while making the career choices. These youngsters can make the informed choice of their desired careers by having a role model.

For instance one can constructively follow our ex-President’s Dr. Kalam’s life path which eventually saw him rise to occupy the highest post in the land. A role model should not be aped or copied per say but his zeal, enthusiasm, determination, dedication and passion towards the particular area of work to achieve the desired level of excellence can yield great dividends. One can read his work, interact with him and derive maximum information about his work ethics.

It is thus extremely vital to read biographies of great visionaries in various domains of mankind and then introspect and design the road map accordingly. Thus it is the need of the hour for our young people to take a leaf out of the great icons which have taken them to the pinnacle of glory in their respective chosen vocations.

In this context parents can gift a biography or two their wards which can help in realising the desired results. Thus, an effective road map supplemented by the motivation of the desired role model can immensely benefit our youngsters to follow their desired path in a joyful and thrilling manner.
