Franky Baretto or Saby Antao - GFDC race is on!

Former internationals Franky Baretto and Saby Antao, are some of the notable candidates who have applied for the paid posts at the newly formed Goa Football Development Council.

Goa Football Development Council, recently constituted bythe state government will advise the government on all matters concerningfootball and to coordinate the activities of the AIFF, GFA ,  SAG , and the local governing bodies like the municipalities,Zilla Parishads ,Panchayats and organisations promoting football.

Panjim-based cardiologist Rufino Monteiro has been appointedthe chairman of the Council while SAG executive secretary Elvis Gomes is theMember Secretary by the government headed by Manohar Parrikar. Some of the aimsand objectives of the Goa Football Development Council is to encourage researchand development in Sports and football related medicines, bio-chemistry,psychology and other allied sciences. To generate production of footballequipment it will encourage research.

A source connected with the scrutiny of the applicationsinformed that Goans based in different parts of world who have been connectedin one way or the other with Goan football in the past have applied for theposts, with applications coming from US and Canada, without divulging thenames. The former Varca village footballer Franky now based in the UAE as coachof University of Wollongong is one the many who has applied for the post. Hesaid “I have applied for one of the positions and am willing to help as much asI can for the betterment of Goan football, I'm no superstar but definitely havegained coaching, administration and management experience in my current jobover the past 8 years. The GFDC needs a  five-year strategic plan”.

Saby, a former player with Salcete FC, is expecting a callfrom the Council. The 42-year-old is a Certified Strength and ConditioningSpecialist and is currently employed as a health and Physical EducationDirector for the New York City Board of Education.
