The Jan Jagruti Yatra brought two Congress leaders in Calangute on one platform with the party's general secretary Agnelo Fernandes promising to work for Joseph Sequeira if the party ticket was allotted to him.
Sequeira, in turn, said he would work for former MLA Agnelo Fernandes if the Congress preferred him for the ticket.
“If Congress decides to allot the ticket to Joseph Sequeira, I will campaign for him to get rid of the communal and U-turn BJP government in the State,” Fernandes said.
Both Fernandes and Sequeira are strong claimants for the Congress ticket from the Calangute constituency.
The GPCC general secretary was addressing hundreds of Congress workers at a public meeting at Nerul after the 'Jan Jagruti Yatra ' passed through Calangute and Candolim on Wednesday afternoon and culminated at Nerul in the evening.
From there the yatra will move to Saligao on its onward journey.
AICC observer for Goa, A Chella Kumar, AICC general secretary, Girish Chodankar, GPCC, general secretary, Trajano D’Mello, Calangute and Candolim panchayat members and others were also present.
He also criticized the government’s bias shack policy where the license for shacks along the Baga-Sinquerim belt was given only for one year while in South Goa it was given for three years.
Highlighting the recent I-T notices slapped on the Church, Fernandes accused the BJP government of playing the communal card and trying to polarize the Goan society.
Regretting his decision of supporting the BJP in the last election, Calangute Deputy Sarpanch Joseph Sequeira said the party has gone back on all promises it made in 2012.
“The BJP made a lot of promises on the eve of 2012 assembly election and that is why I supported the party then,” Sequeira said.
He said the BJP-led government went back on its word to shut down casinos and even failed on the employment front.
AICC general secretary Girish Chodankar said that BJP-led government failed on all fronts and were out to deceive the electorate in the ensuing elections.
