Tripura professional, Pratyush Singh registered his maiden First Class century (110, 180b,10x4,1x6) as his team-mates lower down the order chipped in with valuable contributions as the home team propped up 358 in 115.4 overs on Day 2 of their Elite C Group Rd VI match of the Ranji Trophy 2018-19 season against Goa on Friday at MBB Stadium, Agartala on Saturday.
In reply, Goa were reduced to 107/4 in 51 overs, still 251 runs behind with both the sides looking for their first win and a survival to avoid
relegation.
Earlier in the morning, Pratyush Singh, formerly with Jharkhand, continued his rich vein of form to make a well-deserved maiden hundred at this level. He was the first batsman out after adding 12 runs to his overnight score (110) with the team looking healthy at 277/8. The lower order tasked themselves with grit and gumption to frustrate the Goa attack as Harmeet Singh (40), Rajib Saha (68) and last man with a 26-run cameo stuck up their hand.
Amit Verma and Lakshay Garg picked up three wickets each for Goa while giving away 87 and 107 runs respectively. With regular opener Amogh Desai out of the squad due to injury, Sumiran Amonkar was partnered at the top by wicket-keeper, Rajshekar Harikant debuting at the First Class level.
The new opening Goa pair played out the three overs to lunch without troubling the scorers. Shortly after lunch, Harikant (4) nicked one behind leaving the visitors in early trouble. Struggling captain, Sagun Kamat stay at the wicket was as brief as being dismissed for a second straight nought and the third lbw against his favour on the bounce. From 4/2, the visitors were for an herculean effort to uplift themselves which was not to come.
Amit Verma who oft late is struggling with the bat, made 7 as the score sunk to 21/3. Meanwhile, Sumiran Amonkar who was at his doughty best could not convert on a start and made 22 (110b, 2x4) as Goa were up against it at 54/4 midway through the 33rd over.
Snehal Kauthankar on 42 (92b, 7x4) and Suyash Prabhudessai on 21 (53b, 1x4) unbroken 53-run fifth wicket association resuscitated the team from further strife and took Goa to stumps at 107/4 still 251 runs in arrears.
