Tiatr or theatre has been synonymous with Goa and Goans for generations together and is a part of Goa’s socio-cultural identity. Organic and earthy in nature, tiatr, is a Goan twist to the Italian operetta form and has a legacy which goes back to over a century. The tiatrs play out contemporary dilemmas and issues which play out in society and are reflective of life around the common Goan.

Here’s your chance to see some of the best Goans tiatrs at the 7th popular Tiatr Competition organised by the Tiatr Academy of Goa and scheduled to be held from January 18 to February 4 at Ravindra Bhavan, Vasco, daily at 7 pm.

On January 18, you could catch tiatr ‘Kallem Mazor’ (Black Cat) directed by Elvis Sequeira.

Because the competition is popular and patronised by the state government, all you need to shell out for a ticket to the show is a nominal 50 per person.

Tickets are available with Rodrigues Tailor, Vasco.
