Deadlines for depts to prepare monsoon action plan by May 31

A high-level meeting of the South Goa District Disaster Management Authority chaired by district Collector, Asvin Chandru, IAS has set deadlines to the various departments to put in place an action monsoon preparedness plan by May 31 for implementation during the ensuing rains.

Directions ranging from setting up of control rooms to putting a stop to road digging activity and restoration of roads, besides discussing the role of each of the authorities were deliberated at the meeting to meet any eventualities such as flood, cyclonic storms or any other disaster.

Directions were issued to all the departments to set up control Rooms, which shall be operative and  functioning 24x7 and to be fully manned with trained staff. Directions were issued to notify the telephone numbers and details of the staff.


Action against 

dangerous structures


Municipality, Village Panchayat, Dy. Collector and SDO’s, Mamlatdars, PWD Div-VIII, should identify old structures which are likely to collapse in the upcoming monsoon and take necessary action in the matter at the earliest. Necessary action to shift the likely affected person to Relief Camp to be initiated.

They will have to submit details of identified old structures on or before May 31.



Status of cyclone 

shelter


WRD to keep ready all Seven cyclone shelter  in South Goa District. Capacity of single shelter is 500.


Stability of all hoardings 

in South Goa District 


The Deputy Collector & SDO’s should inspect all hoardings in South Goa District jurisdiction through PWD, and ensure removal of all such unsafe hoardings.



Entry to Dudhsagar waterfalls 

and swimming in beach area.


The Police Inspector, Collem in co-ordination with RPF and Forest Department shall maintain continuous vigil at Collem and Sonaulim Railway Station.


Advisory to be issued by Tourism Department requesting Tourists not to venture into sea and waterfall areas until end of Monsoon Season 2024, ‘No Swimming’ signboards to be erected by May 31 and enforced till September 30)



Power, water supply and 

sewerage Disposal


Electricity Department, PWD (Water Supply) and SIDCL shall take all the measures  for ensuring uninterrupted power supply, water supplu and Sewarage disposal  during the monsoon period.



Railway Subway at Comba


Pumping of the water to be made as and when required. Necessary arrangements for submersible  pump to be provided  by PWD . 24x7 vigil to be maintained by the PWD,Div-VI, Fatorda



Landslide and flood 

prone areas


The Dy. Collector & SDO’s, local bodies, PWD , WRD , Traffic Cell should keep continuous vigil in flood prone area and make necessary arrangement of traffic diversion, and shifting of people to temporary relief camp.

Necessary precautionary measures  to be taken by the PWD, Div. XIV (NH),and concerned  Dy Collectors, & SDO’s, for flooding due to construction work of Western Bypass and necessary arrangements must be made to cover hotspot areas.


Health Department


All the ambulances to be repaired and to be made available on emergency. Essential medicine to be made available at all the Centres. All precautionary measures to be taken for prevention of Dengue , other vector borne diseases.


List  of equipments


The detailed list of equipment like JCBs, Tree Cutters, Cranes etc., to be submitted to the concerned Taluka & Dy. Collector &SDO’s under intimation to Collectorate(South). List of equipments are updated in IDRN portal.
