Dunes ahead in 17th Vagator Soccer 2015

HC Arambol prevailed over Saligao United 8-7 via the sudden death in the 17th Vagator Soccer 2015, oragnised by Vagator Parish Youth Sports Club at Vagator Parish Youth Ground (Ozran Beach) on Friday. The teams were locked 1-1 at full time.
Arambol's Jason Fernandes capitalised on a defensive lapse to score in the third minute. Placing the ball over the head of Saligao keeper Krishna Vengurlekar, he found the far corner of the net. At the breather, Arambol led 1-0. After the lemon-break, Saligao United came close to restoring parity but a free-kick from Govind Mahale saw the ball sailing over the cross bar. However, in the 53rd minute, Govind fed Martino Fernandes with a deft pass and the last named made no mistake in restoring parity.
With the scores level 1-1 at full time, the tie-breaker decided the outcome of the match. In the shoot-out, Arambol prevailed as Saligao went home after losing 6-7. Arambol moved ahead with an aggregate scoreline of 8-7 in sudden-death.
For Arambol, Sunny D'Souza, Jason Fernandes, Stephan Fernandes, Vithal Kinlekar, Dominic Alfonso, Sandesh Madolkar and Bruno Fernandes were on target. For Saligao United it was Shivanand Naik, Trevor Dias, Paulo Joao, Govind Mahale, Marino Fernandes, Akshay Mirajkar were successful from the spot while Shubham Desai failed in his attempt.
In yesterday's match, Dunes Sports Club beat Merces SC 2-0. The first half failed to produce goals as both teams held fort in the midfield. Vivek Naik missed a sitter in the very 2nd minute for Dunes and Dunes keeper Lincon spilled the ball right in front of the goal, only to see Merces forward Shashank Naik shooting wide the loose ball in the 22nd minute. After the breather, Merces' Cedric Peixoto drafted in a fine free-kick only to see Jayesh Kuncolikar's header brushing the upright and going out of play in the 40th minute. Glenson Britto of Dunes latched on to a pass from Vivek Naik and his solo run on the left flank proved fruitful as Merces goal was breached in the 47th minute. Cedric of Merces saw his 30-yard free-kick hit the crossbar after brushing the fingers of Dunes keeper Lincon in the 49th minute. A minute later, Dunes' Glenson made a mess of a beautiful pass from Shashank. In the 60th minute, Salvador of Dunes scored the insurance goal off a header after receiving a good floater from Silvester Dias.
