Upset over the recent attack on a woman by stray dogs, Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar has warned that people feeding stray dogs raw meat in public places could be immediately arrested by Vasco police.
Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar said it was shocking that a woman from Maimolem was mauled by a stray dog.
"I had raised the issue of stray dog menace with rising cases of dog bites in the assembly session as well and demanded that the government come out with concrete plans to prevent dogs chasing innocent people and attacking kids.”
“We have recently cleared almost 90 per cent of stray cattle in the city and its suburbs and we were planning a similar initiative with stray dogs as well, but there are stringent laws due to which we can't do much. The population of stray dogs has been on a constant rise and the maximum we can do is sterilise the dogs and leave them back to the same location," said Salkar.
Salkar said the root cause of stray dogs becoming aggressive was people feeding them raw meat, especially chicken waste from markets in public places.
"We will initiate stringent action against such people and we have already identified a few of these persons because I had taken up this issue when I was a councillor and we had caught a person feeding stray dogs with raw meat then.”
“The dogs become aggressive with raw meat. People can take these dogs to a corner and feed them rice or even cooked meat. This practice of feeding raw meat must be stopped immediately. I have instructed police and even informed Mormugao Deputy Collector to immediately arrest anyone feeding stray dogs with raw meat at public places," said Salkar.
“We request people to refrain from such practices because I have given strict instructions to police to immediately arrest such persons," said Salkar.
