In what is believed to be an illicit trade between Goa and other states, eight bundles of cannabis (ganja) weighing 11.502 kg and valued at about Rs 11.5 lakh were found during routine checks in the Shalimar–Vasco train.

The contraband was found between Koppal and Gadag railway stations by the RPF team on September 15.

The team noticed two unclaimed backpack bags in Coach No. SE255273/C. On inspection, the bags were found to contain a total of eight bundles of small packets wrapped in grey and brown tape, suspected to be dry ganja. The bags were offloaded at Gadag railway station, and the excise department, Gadag, was informed immediately.

In the presence of excise officials, the packets were opened and confirmed to contain dry ganja weighing 11.502 kg and valued at approximately Rs 11.5 lakh. The seized contraband was handed over to excise authorities after following procedures.

A case was registered under U/S 20(b)(ii)(c) & 8(c) of the NDPS Act, 1985, and investigations are in progress.
