Verna police seized tobacco products worth Rs 10,000 in two raids in Verna on Tuesday.
In one case, police conducted a raid at Jakir Mobile Repairing Shop, located within 100 meters of Shree Mahalasa Narayani School, IDC Verna, and seized tobacco products worth Rs 2,200.
Police said the shop owner, identified as Jakir Hussain (33), of Old Mardol, and a native of Assam, was found selling the prohibited items in the school vicinity.
In another case, police conducted a raid at a tea stall belonging to Rajkumar Ghosh (27) at Zori, Zuarinagar, located within 100 metres of the Government School, Zori, Zuarinagar.
Police said the shop owner, identified as Rajkumar Ghosh, of Zori-Zuarinagar, was found selling prohibited tobacco products in the vicinity of the school.
Tobacco products valued at Rs 8,515 were seized from his possession for further legal proceedings.
Police have warned that strict action will be taken against violators of the ban on the sale of tobacco near educational institutions.
