Wearing many hats: How this advocate turned her aesthetic into influence

Advocate Shruthi Arabekar is a name that resonates not just in Goa’s legal circles, but also across fashion runways and Instagram feeds. A practicing lawyer in all courts of Goa, including the High Court, Shruthi was recently recognised as the Most Influential Woman in Goa (2024). A meritorious student throughout her academic journey, she has always stood out, both in achievements and presence.

But Shruti’s story doesn’t stop at legal briefs and courtrooms. Known for her impeccable style since childhood, she transitioned from sharing well-dressed photos on Facebook to becoming a self-made social media influencer, with collaborations from leading brands like Samsung, Lakme, Timex, Zomato, and Flipkart, all without ever pitching herself. Her colourful, vibrant feed and content often captured with help from family and friends has even earned her a place on the Goa government’s official list of empanelled influencers through the Entertainment Society of Goa.

Balancing court cases with beauty reviews and travel content, Shruthi represents a new generation of professionals who refuse to be boxed into one role. She continues to stay rooted in her work as an advocate, while creatively expressing herself online with the same rigour and discipline.

The start

I began my journey over 10 years ago. Back then, I used to post still photos of myself on Facebook. I remember how, around 2014–2015, those pictures started getting a lot of attention. I had a large group of friends, and I slowly began to experience a little bit of fame. At that time, phone cameras weren’t great, so I used a DSLR to get good-quality pictures.

Later, I shifted to Instagram. Since then, I’ve always made sure that my feed follows a certain aesthetic, one that I’ve developed myself. For example, if I post a picture with a certain colour theme, I make sure the next few photos match that tone to maintain a consistent and visually pleasing look. I don’t like clutter. Everything that goes on my Instagram feed is carefully planned. I want anyone who glances at my profile to instantly feel the visual appeal and harmony.

Challenges

I wouldn’t say I face major challenges, but time management can get tricky. Balancing a full-time legal career with content creation requires good planning. I make sure that I never have to choose between my profession and my passion.

I never let content creation interfere with my day job. I plan all my shoots for weekends when I’m free at home. During weekdays, I dedicate 2–3 hours in the evenings or at night for my page. My weekends are fully devoted to content creation. So yes, it’s difficult but definitely possible to manage both if you’re committed and organised.

Competition

I don’t see other content creators as competitors because everyone has their own unique style and I have mine. If I were copying someone else’s content, then I’d be in competition with them. But I believe that when you’re doing something true to yourself and doing it your way, people will appreciate your individuality more than just following trends.

It’s important to develop your own voice and style. That’s what attracts an audience and keeps them interested. Since what I’m doing isn’t the same as what others are doing, I don’t feel the need to compare or compete.

Brand deals

I started getting brand collaborations after I joined Instagram. When a brand reaches out, I first try to understand what they’re looking for. Then I create content based on their needs. After I send them a draft, they review and approve it before I post it.

Most of my experiences with brands have been good. A few brands had poor communication and coordination, so those collaborations didn’t go as smoothly as expected. But I don’t let that affect my mindset. I always focus on creating good content. Even if one experience doesn’t work out, I move on and make sure the next brand gets the best results for the trust they place in me.

Future plans

I plan to continue creating content alongside my legal career. Content creation is a passion, something I would’ve done even if social media didn’t exist. Even before these platforms, I loved posing for photos and developing a unique aesthetic style.

This journey is something I see continuing throughout my life. As I grow, I hope to explore new areas and evolve creatively while staying connected to my roots.

Advice for others

My advice is simple: be original. Don’t copy others’ content or ideas. While copying may give you short-term attention, it won’t last. If your content isn’t authentic, your audience will eventually lose interest.

Instead, focus on your strengths. In my case, I’ve always had a personal interest in fashion and beauty, so I chose that as my niche. Find what you love and build your content around that. When your content reflects your passion and uniqueness, your audience will notice and they’ll stay.
