Fridge on the bridge

The new 8-lane Zuari bridge, when it was first unveiled, had a plan of having a rotating restaurant on one of its pillar. But that plan will take time to see the light of the day as the bridge is only half complete.

However, as the bridge was thrown open to the public for four days prior to its inauguration, visitors did get to enjoy the services of a makeshift restaurant in the form of a stall operated by one Raju Mourya which, though, did not go down well with St Andre MLA Viresh Borkar.

When Borkar confronted Mourya over setting up of the stall, he was informed that he was given oral permission by the project manager of DBL. The project manager then spilled the beans over the phone that it was a former BJP MLA who had given the green signal for setting up of the stall.

But Borkar forced the closure of the stall as he posed whether there were no Goans available to set up the stall.

The MLA also pointed out that gross violations were committed by allowing setting up of the stall on the bridge built on public exchequer’s money. He also slammed the DBL for providing electrical connections to the refrigerator and the coffee vending machine.

The episode seemed to have stumped the government which immediately announced that the public won't be allowed on the bridge on the fourth day citing that they needed to prepare for the inauguration function. And the party came to a crushing end.
