PANAJI: Xavier Centre of Historical Research will hold a film screening of ‘Bread and Belonging’, a film by Sonia Filinto on February 8 at XCHR campus, at Claude Saldanha hall Porvorim at 6.30 pm. This 50-minute film focuses on three stories around Pão, Goa’s unique bread. These stories highlight India’s smallest State, Goa, where people face the reality of migration, changing culture and the ever present need to earn a living.
Born in Goa, the director, Sonia Filinto, has worked in multiple roles on documentary films and non-fiction television programming in Mumbai. She now divides her time between Mumbai and Goa. The film was screened at Fundacão Oriente in Goa, at Dharamshala International Film Festival (online), at Sophia College, Mumbai in a Documentary Film Festival, at Bangalore International Centre in collaboration with Vikalp Bengaluru (online) in 2020. In 2021 it was screened at SiGNS Film Festival, Kerala. 2021 (online), Special Jury Mention for Best Documentary Film, Film Expo, Association for Asian Studies, University of Illinois and London Indian Film Festival (online and in theatre), Indian Film Festival of Melbourne and Tasveer South Asian Film Festival, Seattle (online).
