‘Cantaram for the Community’ concert on August 8 & 12

PANAJI: To mark its 20th anniversary, Communicare Trust will host ‘Cantaram for the Community’ concerts at Carmel College, Nuvem (August 8), and St Xavier’s College, Mapusa (August 12), both starting at 10 am. The initiative aims to reconnect college youth with classic Konkani music through live performances and vinyl playback. The concerts will showcase works by legendary Goan composers like C Alvares and Ophelia Cabral. Performing live will be the ensemble Entre Nós, led by Omar de Loiola Pereira, with vocals by Nadia Rebelo and Ginelle Fernandes. Vinyl sets curated by Leaxan Freitas will explore Goa’s musical journey from gramophones to digital. Photos, lyrics, and stories will enhance the experience. “It’s about music, heritage, and how technology has changed,” said Nalini Elvino de Sousa of Communicare. The event is supported by the Maria Crescencia Menezes Memorial Educational Trust, which has long backed Communicare’s cultural efforts.
