PORVORIM
Noted academician, writer and social worker Prof. Edward de Lima of Lima Waddo, Porvorim, passed away on Monday morning.
The final rites at expected to take place with close family members at the Socorro Church on Tuesday evening on account of Covid restrictions.
Born on August 8, 1946, Edward de Lima studied at St Anthony's High School, Monte de Guirim (1953 to 1963).
He secured a BA from Dhempe College (1967), MA in English and American Literature from Bombay University through the CPIR (Panaji) in 1970, Diploma in Higher Education from Bombay University (1976), M.Phil from Goa University (1993) and PhD from Goa University (2003).
Prof. de Lima taught English Language and Literature, Communication Skills and Business Communication in colleges in Goa from 1972 and retired as Reader and Head, Dept of English at D.M's College, Assagao in 2005.
He also held various appointments at 1 Goa Battalion NCC and was awarded by the State government with the State Award (1995) for meritorious NCC services. He superannuated in 1996 with the rank of major.
