QUEPEM: The World Malayalee Council (WMC) – Goa organised an afforestation drive at Cavorem in Quepem on June 13, 2025, under its ‘Nurture the Nature’ initiative, in observance of World Environment Day.
The event was inaugurated by Jiss K Varkey, IFS, Deputy Conservator of Forests, Government of Goa. He stressed the importance of tree plantation and spoke about his experiences and government schemes for environmental conservation across India.
WMC Goa President Jacob P Mathews encouraged youth to reduce plastic use, dispose of e-waste responsibly, and adopt eco-friendly habits. Chairman Stanley Joseph raised concerns about climate change, while Secretary Sharat Shankar and other senior members called for environmental justice and sustained protection efforts.
