Goa Glorious: Remembering freedom struggle of Yeshwant Bhat

Yeshwant Vasudev Bhat, born on 2nd June 1934, in Loliem, Canacona, was a dedicated freedom fighter whose legacy is preserved at the ‘Aguad Interactive Museum: Goa - The Land, The Struggle, The People’ at Sinquerim. He was a member of the National Congress Goa (NCG), who actively organised meetings at Karwar to spread political awareness. On 26th January 1955, he offered Satyagraha and was arrested, following which he suffered brutal treatment in jail. His rifle was confiscated, and he was sentenced to eight years, with two years of imprisonment and a 20-year deprivation of political rights. He was released on 1st July 1959. In recognition of his service, he was honoured with the Tamrapatra by the Government of India in 1972.
