MARGAO: St. Savio SC beat Xetrapal SC 4-1 to enter the quarter-finals of Nerul Panchayat Cup inter village football tournament, organised by Nerul Sports Club, at Nerul Sports Club ground.
In the 10th minute, Mervin D'Souza gave the lead to St Savio Calangute through Colin Sieiro. Soon, Mervin D'Souza scored by keeping the Xetrapal goalkeeper idle under the bar to make it 2-0. A long range shot by Colin D'Souza well saved by the Xetrapal keeper. Vipul Pednekar of Xetrapal dribbled Samir Chodankar to create a good space to score but missed it narrowly. In the 30th minute Deep Govekar's free-kick mishandled by the Xetrapal keeper Colin D'Souza rushed for the rebound and scored third goal for St Savio.
In the second half, Chandrakant Shirodkar of Xetrapal SC created a good opportunity to score but missed it narrowly. Mervin D'Souza completed his hat-trick by scoring one more goal for St Savio SC to make it 4-0. Vipul Pednekar scored for Xetrapal SC to reduce the score tally to 4-1.
