The community of Pilerne will focus on local berries and Goan music at this week’s Zero Waste Inclusive Pilerne Thursday Heritage Market, on April 18 at the St John The Baptist Church Courtyard from 6 pm to 9 pm. The market will pay tribute to the rich cultural heritage of Goa with the theme “Local Berries of Goa” and honour the legacy of the legendary Goan musician, Alfred Rose. Dr Glenis Mendonca, professor at Carmel College, Nuvem, will grace the occasion as the guest speaker. Dr Mendonca will share insights from her latest book about Alfred Rose and serenade the audience with renditions of his greatest hits. “The Zero Waste Inclusive Pilerne Thursday Heritage Market is more than just a market; it’s a celebration of community, culture, and inclusivity,” said Fr Derrick Fernandes, the parish priest. This wheelchair-friendly market welcomes everyone to relax and indulge in Goa’s finest culinary delights while soaking in the sounds of live music. With ample seating and a warm, inviting atmosphere, attendees are encouraged to linger, socialise, and make new friends. The market, which originated from the Matiechem Fest brainchild of Goa’s Festakar Marius Fernandes is held in Pilerne every October, has become a cornerstone of the community, fostering unity and empowerment among its residents.
