PANAJI: The Family Apostolate Animation Team of the Parish of St Francis Xavier, Duler, organised a Heart Hero workshop on Compression Only Life Support (COLS) on February 15. The initiative was led by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Goa and promoted by the World Apostolate of Fatima.
Over 70 people attended what organisers said was the first programme of its kind in Bardez. The workshop, meant for lay persons, trained citizens to act during cardiac emergencies. Doctors stressed that the first three minutes after a collapse are crucial and quick chest compressions by bystanders can improve survival.
Participants were split into three groups and practised on mannequins, receiving guidance from doctors. The training team included Dr Sandeep Naik, Dr Shailesh Hede and Dr Hemant Parsekar.
Organisers thanked the doctors and participants, saying the programme helped build a community ready to respond in emergencies.
