GSPCB to host environment summit from Feb 2

The Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) will hold its first international Environment and Sustainability Summit on February 2-4 during which 100-odd experts will address around 300 delegates on the theme ‘Building a Sustainable Future’. The Board will also sign Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) on waste disposals and green rating to industries. “Around 300 delegates from India and across different countries will participate in the three-day event wherein 100 speakers will talk on environment and sustainability. The Environment Department will also write to all the Colleges with Science stream to send students to attend the summit,” Minister for Environment Nilesh Cabral said at a press conference held in Panaji on Monday. Representatives from, ministries, government departments, industries, academia, financial institutions, civil society, research scholars, educational institutions, etc will also be among the participants. Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) Bhupendra Yadav will inaugurate the event at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium with the nationwide Wetland Conservation Campaign also scheduled to be launched as a part of the World Wetland Day celebration. GSPCB Chairman Mahesh Patil informed reporters that the Board will sign three MoUs pertaining to the issuance of green certification to the industries and buildings and evaluating companies on the environmental friendliness of their activities and granting ratings.
