MARGAO: The LPG Distributors Association of India has called for tamper-proof seals on LPG cylinders to prevent misuse during delivery to customers. The Association is currently holding a convention in Goa to discuss the challenges faced by LPG distributors across the country.

Speaking to the media, Association National President B S Sharma said they fully support tamper-proof seals on LPG cylinders to stop tampering. Sharma questioned why a water bottle costing Rs 10 has a tamper-proof seal while LPG cylinders do not. “We have raised this issue with petroleum companies. At present, we cannot say whether underweight cylinders are leaving the plants or if they are being tampered with later. The only solution is to introduce tamper-proof seals,” he said.

Sharma also pointed out that the legal metrology law mandates tamper-proof seals on LPG cylinders. The convention will also discuss other issues faced by distributors, including the long-pending demand for a hike in commission.
