The Socorro Panchayat recently felicitated students who excelled in SSC, HSSC of Goa Board as well as graduates of Goa University.
In his address, Tourism Minister and Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte said there has been a sharp decline in the reading habits of students these days.
“Compared with previous generations, teens nowadays spent more time online and less time with traditional media such as books and magazines. Reading is important because it develops the mind and provides knowledge and lessons of life,” said Khaunte.
Speaking further, Khaunte said, “Reading helps one understand the world better, keeps the mind active and enhances the creative ability. Reading also helps improve vocabulary and communication skills.”
Earlier, Socorro Sarpanch Sonia Pednekar welcomed the gathering.
