MARGAO: Saligao United scored a 5-4 win via the tie-breaker over Augustias Sports Club Pomburpa to move into the quarter-finals of the Nerul Panchayat Cup inter-village football tournament, organised by Nerul Sports Club, at Nerul Sports Club ground. on Thursday.
Vivek Arondekar of Pomburpa nicely dribbled the ball past in the penalty area but failed to score in the 16th minunte. Vivek Arondekar again failed to give the lead off a through ball by Akshay Shirodkar. Arondekar's hard cross was very well defended by Saligao United defender.
In the second half, Deepesh Shirodkar of Augustias SC failed to convert in a one-to-one opportunity. A long range shot from Nester Dias of Saligao United hit the cross bar in the 58the minute.
In the resultant tie-breaker, Saligao United scored through Charnel Fernandes, Nester Dias, Cresto D'souza, Latesh Mandrekar and Tarak Kandolkar while Augustias SC found the net through Bhuvan Parwar, Rohan Naik, Joystan Lobo and Deepesh Shirodkar.
