The forthcoming academic year, 2024-25, will introduce new syllabi and textbooks from the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) exclusively tailored for third and sixth-grade students in Goa. This update does not impact the curriculum or textbooks for other grades.

Highly placed sources disclosed to The Goan that the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) is awaiting delivery of the materials from the NCERT before initiating the printing process for these textbooks – to be used by both the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, and the CBSE.

When questioned about delays, officials dismissed the possibility while affirming that printing of these books will promptly commence upon receipt of the CD and copyright permissions. In the interim, textbooks for remaining grades remain unaffected, as previously scheduled.

The NCERT, in a written communique dated March 18 to all heads of Institutions affiliated with the CBSE had stated that new syllabi and textbooks for classes third and sixth were under development and will soon be released. “The council is preparing new school textbooks in line with the new national curriculum framework for school education (NCF-SE) 2023 as a part of the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020,” a source said.

The board further advised the schools to follow the NCF-SE recommendations and incorporate methodologies such as multilingualism, art-integrated education, experiential learning, and pedagogical plans, wherever feasible.

Quite a few states and union territories have in the past adopted NCERT syllabi and textbooks for school education. The NCERT had even announced financial assistance for adopting its syllabus.
