The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) has criticised the BJP-led state government for failing to take an all-party delegation to the Centre to strengthen Goa’s stand on the Mhadei river diversion issue.
Speaking at a press conference, GPCC president Amit Patkar also asked why Chief Minister Pramod Sawant is not arranging a meeting with the Prime Minister and the Karnataka Chief Minister about the Mhadei matter, especially when Karnataka is ready for talks.
He pointed out that Karnataka has been consistent in pressuring the Centre to clear the Kalasa Bhandura project.
"The Chief Minister had promised to take an all-party delegation to the Centre over Mhadei, but it has still not happened. The government is not serious about Mhadei at all," Patkar said.
Meanwhile, the GPCC, calling itself Goenkarancho Aawaz, will hold a protest on Tuesday evening under the "Savidhan Bachao Abhiyan" campaign. A peaceful march will take place from Divar Circle and end with a meeting at Azad Maidan.
Patkar said the campaign will highlight major issues in Goa such as rising crime, unemployment, and the protection of constitutional rights.
