Kingfisher will now be associated with FC Goa as their ‘principal sponsor.' The tie-up comes at a time when the Gaurs are settling into coach Sergio Lobera's attacking brand of football, with a fair degree of ease while the Goans are keeping a close eye on the transition of the team from legendary Zico's era to the regime of a much younger and lesser famed but promising Spanish tactician Lobera.
"Over the years, we have been doing many things from Goa Pro League to Voice of Goa, to various music events that take place in Goa...We thought that the time was right to give back to Goans the love they have given us as a brand. We are happy to announce our partnership with FC Goa as the Goans see our brand as their own brand and similarly they see FC Goa as their own team," said Gurpreet Singh, Asst. Vice-President (Marketing), United Breweries Ltd, during a press conference on Tuesday morning.
FC Goa president, Akshay Tandon, expressed his happiness on the partnership with Kingfisher. "We are pleased to get Kingfisher on board as a principal sponsor. The commercial appeal of Indian football is growing year-on-year and we are extremely happy to partner a vibrant brand like Kingfisher, which embodies the spirit of Goa," he said in a statement. "Our association will elevate the experience for all FC Goa fans around the world with interesting activations and immersive content. Our endeavour is to drive maximum value for Kingfisher and our fans through our multi-year association," Tandon added.
Singh praised former Barcelona assistant-coach Lobera for his passion for the game and highlighted his ability to hunt for talent. "It is interesting to see how FC Goa are focussing on local talent, home-grown talent from Goa. Over the years, I am confident that this association will help us touch the grassroots level, which we are very keen to achieve along with FC Goa," emphasised Singh on the long-term goal of the coming together of Kingfisher and FC Goa. He also added that Bengaluru FC is the only other ISL outfit they have a similar association with.
Coach Lobera hailed the partnership, saying: "In today's world of sports where we all live by results, it is very difficult to come across long-term projects in football. On behalf of the club, I thank Kingfisher for coming on board to back the club's vision. Nowadays, it is difficult to find corporates who want to back a club or a team on long-term basis, so we have to thank Kingfisher for putting their faith in us and trusting us with what we want to do, and hopefully we will work towards achieving our objectives united,"
remarked Lobera.
