Two accused in the murder of a person in Tiwaiwada-Calangute have been arrested from Chhattisgarh.
Calangute police arrested Aditya Shashikant Prasad and Bhavesh Bhojaram Sahu in connection with the murder of Rajbhar Ravinarayan Ramdarshanbhai (27) of Surat-Gujarat and a Mapusa court remanded the suspects to police custody for five days.
The prime suspect, Komal Uttam Baraskar (28) of Madhya Pradesh was arrested by the police from Vasco on the day of the incident on March 28.
According to police, a group of 19 persons had come to Goa to bet on the Indian Premier League cricket tournament and had stayed at a guesthouse in Tiwaiwada-Calangute.
At the time of the incident, the three accused and the deceased were were in the gallery outside the room drinking alcohol, while the others were in their respective rooms.
Sometime later, an argument broke out between Ramdarshanbhai and Baraskar over Baraskar’s girlfriend.
The matter escalated and Baraskar alleged brought a knife from the room and attacked Ramdarshanbhai, who fled from the room and ran for his life. The three suspects, Baraskar, Prasad and Sahu chased him as he sought shelter in a nearby resort.
The accused caught Ramdarshanbhai near the swimming pool and Baraskar allegedly stabbed him on the chest and stomach with a knife. Ramdarshanbhai bled to death on the spot.
After the incident, Baraskar and the two other accused fled the scene.
Baraskar left for Vasco in a rented taxi and was in the process of attemptingn to leave for his hometown by train, when he was nabbed and arrested by Calangute police.
Prasad and Sahu, however, managed to leave the State and police received information that they had gone to their native village in Chhattisgarh by train.
Accordingly, the police at the Cantonment Police Station in Durg, Chhattisgarh detained Prasad and Sahu on April 14. The next day, a Calangute police team took both suspects into custody and brought them to Goa on April 17, where they were arrested in the case. They were produced before a Mapusa court late at night and were remanded to police custody for five days.
Calangute Police Inspector Lakshi Amonkar is conducting further investigations in the case.
