Prominent Oncology consultant at Manipal Hospital in Dona Paula, Dr Shekhar Salkar on Saturday disclosed that a total of 270 Covid beds, almost 34 per cent of the total 805 Covid beds in Goa, are presently available in government and private hospitals.
Out of the total Covid beds available in the State, 72 beds are in private hospitals while 733 beds are in government hospitals.
He informed that SMRC Hospital in Vasco has a total of 17 beds of which 14 are vacant, Victor Hospital in Margao has 15 beds of which 12 are vacant, Manipal has 22 Covid beds of which six are vacant and Healthway in Old Goa has 18 Covid beds of which five are vacant.
On the other hand, 10 of the 227 Covid beds at Goa Medical College and Hospital in Bambolim are vacant, 60 of the 220 beds at ESI Covid Hospital are vacant, 85 of the total 150 beds at South Goa District Hospital in Margao are vacant while 78 of the total 136 Covid bed at Sub-District Hospital in Ponda are vacant.
“Total vacancy is 270 Covid beds of which 233 are in government hospitals while 37 beds are in private hospitals,” Dr Salkar revealed asserting that this is a sign that while Covid-19 is on its way out, people seem to be spoiling the show through reckless behaviour.
“Now the ball is in people’s court not in the government or private medical sector,” he insisted while urging people to follow all protocols and SOPs of Covid-19 safety.
