The Global Romi Lipi Abhiyan (GRLA) has announced that a Private Member's Resolution to introduce Romi Konkani into schools will be tabled on the floor of the house by Aldona MLA Adv Carlos Ferreira on July 25.
GRLA convenor Kennedy Afonso said that a second resolution to establish the Goa State Minorities Commission will be submitted in the Assembly by the opposition MLAs, adding, “We hope it will win the lottery system tomorrow.”
Afonso said the Global Romi Lipi Abhiyan has launched an awareness campaign for the last 15 years and has been working closely with all opposition MLAs to draft and defend these two resolutions in the forthcoming Assembly session.
“We have also met BJP party president Damodar Naik, who has assured us that he will fix an appointment with the CM before the Assembly session starts. We are also in the process of meeting all ruling party MLAs in the days to come to garner support for the two resolutions,” he said.
GRLA has appealed to CM Dr Pramod Sawant and all the 40 MLAs to unitedly stand together to pass the long-standing demand of the minorities community, to protect the Romi Konkani script from extinction.
