High-level committee report on Goa University paper leak submitted; CM forwards it for action

PANAJI: The high-level committee constituted to probe the Goa University exam paper leak has submitted its report to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who has forwarded it for further action.

Sawant, speaking at the inauguration of the refurbished Goa Staff Selection Commission office at the Spaces Building in Patto, Panaji, today, confirmed the development.

“The fact-finding committee on the Goa University paper leak has submitted its report to me, and the same has been forwarded to the Secretary of Education for necessary action,” Sawant said.

The report follows months of controversy surrounding the suspension of Assistant Professor Dr Pranav Naik from the School of Physical & Applied Sciences. He was accused of leaking a Physics question paper to help a specific student, sparking protests by student bodies NSUI and ABVP, who demanded strict disciplinary and legal action.

Goa University had initially set up a fact-finding committee to examine the allegations. Based on its findings, the university filed a formal complaint with Agassaim Police, leading to a criminal case against Naik under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including forgery, trespass, housebreaking, and cheating.

The FIR states that Naik allegedly forged duplicate keys to access faculty cabins and unlawfully leaked examination materials. He remains suspended pending further proceedings.

Separately, the State government constituted a high-level inquiry committee headed by retired High Court judge RMS Khandeparkar, with members including former DIG Bosco George, ex-GU registrar Radhika Nayak, and law professor MRK Prasad.

Goa University also assured that the fact-finding report will also be placed before its Executive Council, the disciplinary authority, for appropriate action against the accused.
