The Goa Traffic Police has urged the public to follow traffic rules during Diwali and Narkasur effigy displays across the state, with motorists advised to use designated parking areas, avoid drunken driving, wear helmets and refrain from carrying excess pillion passengers.
In an official post, the Goa Traffic SP stated, “On the eve of Diwali, Narkasur effigy competitions and displays will be held at various locations across Goa, attracting large crowds. Members of the public visiting these locations are requested to observe traffic rules and cooperate with the Traffic Police to ensure smooth traffic movement and public safety.”
SP advised motorists against parking or stopping vehicles on roads, as this could obstruct traffic and inconvenience other road users. Two-wheeler riders have been asked to wear helmets and avoid carrying excess pillion passengers. The police have also urged motorists to refrain from drunken driving and strictly follow all traffic regulations.
He warned that strict legal action would be initiated against violators, including those found driving under the influence of alcohol.
“Let us celebrate Diwali responsibly by ensuring safe roads and hassle-free traffic movement. Goa Traffic Police wishes everyone a safe and happy Diwali,” the post stated.
Meanwhile, the Goa government has informed the High Court that playing music after midnight will not be permitted during Narkasur festivities.
A Special Bench of the High Court on Saturday heard a petition seeking strict implementation of the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000, to curb noise pollution, particularly during festivals.
The petitioner, a senior citizen, has sought interim directions to the authorities to monitor and regulate noise pollution on Saturday evening in view of the Narkasur festivities.
