Sand dune row: GCZMA issues notice to Mobor property owner

MARGAO
Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas on Friday said the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) had issued a stop-work-cum-show-cause notice to the owner of the property at Mobor-Cavelossim, where locals had alleged the destruction of a massive sand dune.
The action comes after Thursday's uproar in the village and the assurance given by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant during his visit to Benaulim.
Viegas told the media that the GCZMA had issued the stop-work-cum-show-cause notice to the property owner following the alleged destruction of the sand dune.
The Benaulim MLA has demanded that the government mark the property in question as a no-development zone as punishment for the destruction of the sand dune.
The Benaulim MLA has further demanded a vigilance inquiry into the Cavelossim panchayat secretary over what he alleged was misuse of power by not revoking the permission.
Meanwhile, Cavelossim sarpanch Dixon Vaz has called a panchayat meeting on Saturday to decide on the revocation of the permission issued to the property owner to erect bio-fencing and whether to file a petition before the National Green Tribunal.
