Local residents of Manora in Raia village havevehemently opposed the proposed construction project in their locality, fearingthat it will put further pressure on infrastructure, including water and powersupply.
The Raia village panchayat on Thursdayconducted an inspection of the site of the proposed housing complex along withsarpanch Xavier Fernandes, panch member Judas Quadros and the panchayatsecretary.
Local residents, who have been opposing theproject, conveyed their opposition to the panchayat team, urging it not toallow the project to proceed. They drew the panchayat's attention to the waterhardships faced by the local population, raising apprehensions that thescarcity of rainfall would further aggravate their problems in the comingmonths.
Saying that the ward was also facing powerissues, the residents said the project would further disturb the peace of thevillage. They reiterated their demand that all housing projects should first beplaced before gram sabha meetings for discussion.
