PANAJI: Archbishop of Goa and Daman Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferrão, along with Auxiliary Bishop Simiao Fernandes, has extended warm Diwali greetings to the Hindu community, urging people to strengthen interfaith dialogue, mutual respect and communal harmony.
In a message issued on behalf of the Catholic community in the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman, Cardinal Ferrão said Diwali symbolises the triumph of light over darkness and truth over untruth, offering an opportunity to nurture love and compassion.
“Diwali beautifully reminds us of the triumph of light over darkness and truth over untruth. As homes light up with traditional diyas, we are called to kindle love and compassion within our hearts,” the message stated.
Referring to the Vatican Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue, he stressed that building peaceful societies requires collective commitment, with authentic dialogue, mutual respect and everyday interactions forming the foundation of lasting peace.
Describing Goa as a beacon of communal harmony, Cardinal Ferrão called upon people to strengthen bonds of fraternity and work together to overcome prejudice.
“Let us use this festive season to strengthen our bonds of fraternity, working hand-in-hand to dispel prejudice and care for one another,” he said.
The message concluded with wishes for lasting peace, good health and happiness for all families, expressing hope that the festival of lights would bring greater understanding and harmony.
