PANAJI: The Scrutiny Committee constituted under the chairmanship of the Deputy Collector and Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Mormugao, has conducted preliminary scrutiny and verification of claims submitted by 107 persons affected by the fire at Vasco Sunday market. Claimants have been granted an additional day to submit documents and supporting records required to verify their claims.
During the scrutiny conducted today, the committee found that 50 claimants identified themselves as owners of their respective businesses. The remaining claimants included those operating businesses from rented premises and through subletting arrangements.
Several claimants sought an additional day to produce relevant documents and records. Accordingly, the committee has asked all concerned claimants to appear for further scrutiny tomorrow, from 10.30 am onwards, at the Conference Hall of Mormugao Municipal Council, Vasco. Claimants have been asked to bring documents establishing ownership or occupation of premises, tenancy or subletting arrangements, business registration records, invoices, bills, stock and inventory details, records of business activity and any other documents supporting the losses claimed.
The committee has also made provisions for claimants whose documents were lost or destroyed in the fire. Such persons must submit an affidavit clearly specifying the documents destroyed and providing relevant particulars of their businesses. The affidavit must be countersigned by the President or Secretary of the authorised committee concerned, wherever applicable. In its communication, the committee has urged affected persons to avail themselves of the additional opportunity and cooperate by furnishing accurate details and available supporting evidence.
