Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday assured the Goa Legislative Assembly that the State government will take up the matter of the cancelled direct Air India flight between Goa and London with the Union Civil Aviation Ministry, following concerns raised over its abrupt suspension.

Responding to a request made by Calangute MLA Michael Lobo during the session, Sawant said the government would write to the ministry to seek clarity on the situation and push for the restoration of the route if reports of the cancellation are confirmed.

“We will write to the Civil Aviation Ministry and, if true, we will request that the flight be restored,” the chief minister told the House.

Lobo expressed concern over the sudden discontinuation of the direct Goa-London Air India flight, which he said was frequently used by Goans, especially those working or studying abroad.

He noted that there has been no official communication regarding the reason for the suspension or whether the service would resume, leaving passengers in the dark.

The Goa-London direct flight had been a convenient option for thousands of Goans with ties to the UK, especially during the tourist season and festive periods.

Its suspension is likely to affect not only individual travellers but also inbound tourism from the UK, a key market for Goa's hospitality industry.
