The Colvale police on Thursday registered a First Information Report (FIR) against an under trial prisoner, Pradeep Khalko for attempting to escape from the Colvale Central Jail.
The FIR has been registered based on a complaint lodged by Jailor Mukund Gawas, alleging that Khalko tried to flee from the jail premises on Wednesday afternoon when the prisoners were taken out of their blocks for ‘fresh air and movement.’
According to SDPO Mapusa, Jivba Dalvi, the accused was remanded to the Central Jail Colvale on June 5 by the JMFC Sanguem. “He tried to climb the inner compound wall of the new admission block in the jail premises by using the ground floor roof and gate for support. We have booked a case against him,” he said.
In light of recent events, the Additional Inspector General of Prisons Vasudev Shetye along with Dalvi and the Officer-in-Charge of Colvale Jail Somnath Mhajik inspected the jail premises. “We have emphasized the importance of prisoners adhering to the discipline outlined in the Jail manual,” Dalvi said.
Barely a week ago, a senior officer dared unruly prisoners to escape from the jail while warning of strict consequences. The jail officials are also warned of disciplinary action if there's reoccurrence of violence and escape bids.
