Optical cables, 2 tempos damaged in Porvorim fire

PORVORIM

Optical cable worth Rs 1 crore was gutted while two tempos were damaged in a fire outside the godown of the Ethernet Express company near the KTC bus depot at Porvorim. The company has suspected a case of arson.

Pilerne Fire Station Deputy Fire Officer Sunny Faide said they received a call at around 8.35 am on Tuesday stating that fire had broken out near the godown of Ethernet Express.

“We left immediately along with a fire tender to the spot and tried to extinguish the fire. Since the fire was reigniting again and again, we summoned a JCB to segregate the optic fibre cable. We could extinguish the fire after about 90 minutes,” said Faide.

While optical fibre cable was gutted in the fire, two tempos (GA-03-N-7146 and GA-03AH-0823) were also damaged.

“The Ethernet Express company has estimated the loss at about Rs 1 crore. The exact cause of fire is not known but company believes that it is case of arson,” said Faide.

Porvorim PSI Sitaram Malik and Constable Madan Tari later conducted a panchnama of the incident and further investigations are in progress.
