The Congress leadership has empowered GPCC Chief Amit Patkar and Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao to hold discussions with Goa Forward Chief Vijai Sardesai and Revolutionary Goans Party supreme Manoj Parab on the contentious issue of defectors and seat sharing formula for the upcoming December 20 Zilla Panchayat election.
In another development, the Pradesh Election Committee of the Congress will meet on Tuesday morning to decide on the party candidates for the upcoming December 20 Zilla Panchayat election.
This was decided at a late evening meeting of the Congress party which was attended by party Goa desk in-charge Manikrao Thakare and the members of the Coordination committee constituted to oversee the upcoming elections.
Sources said the party has reiterated its stand that it will not compromise on defections and defectors.
Against this background, the GPCC president and the Opposition leader have been told to discuss with the Goa Forward Party Chief the issue of the induction of former Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes into the regional party.
The duo is also expected to convey the party's decision to the two regional parties that the Congress is not ready to concede certain seats to the Goa Forward Party and the RGP.
