As a real estate developer from Fatorda claimed that some persons made a bid to extort money to the tune of Rs two crore, the Fatorda police have said they are on the job to inquire into the claims made by the complainant.
What has added a twist to the extortion episode is that the complainant, Shrinivas Thorwat, has claimed that the extortionists flaunted their close association with a person.
In his complaint, Shrinivas Thorwat lodged a case against the accused persons, claiming they are affiliated with a particular person. He charged the accused with extortion, confinement, threats to kill and criminal intimidation.
The incident is believed to have occurred in a fast-food centre near Chowgule College, with the complainant alleging that he was threatened with bodily harm. He alleged that the accused demanded he pay an amount of Rs two crore.
“I objected to such a demand and made it clear that I will not succumb to such extortion demands. At that time, the other two unknown persons, who appeared to be bodybuilders, started becoming aggressive and told me not to move from my seat. I was confined to the said sitting place for almost 30 to 40 minutes,” he said.
When 'The Goan' called up Fatorda police station in-charge, PI Nathan Almeida, to shed light on the extortion complaint, he said the police are investigating the matter.
